Flathead Lake in northwest Montana is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi; slightly larger than Lake Tahoe at 27.3 mi. long, 15.5 mi. wide, and max depth of 370.7 ft..  As one of the cleanest in the world, Flathead Lake is perfect for OPEN WATER SWIMMING!  No sharks, no jellyfish, and no lane lanes...just clear, clean, and crisp water!

Bull Island Start

HARVEST MOON 10k (almost)

It can be challenging to guide a swim, but mad props to DANA JOHNSTON for piloting my Harvest Moon Swim across Polson Bay.

Starting on the south shore of Bull Island, we started off in nearly perfect conditions with water temp at 61F (16C).  However, as seems to be the case on Flathead Lake, we hit an 8mph headwind when the sun set at 7:20.  The moon rise followed an hour later, and the breeze continued.  Click here for Harvest Moon Swim.
