Cedar & Shelter Islands

The first waypoint of Stage One of the CHASING THE GRIZZLY swim, Cedar Island and the privately owned Shelter Island offer some fantastic swimming. Cedar Island, another Montana State Park, is just over one mile around with some great rock formations and beaches.  Shelter Island is Montana's most expensive real estate at $45-million, and while we can't go ON the island, there are no rules against swimming around it! Cedar, Shelter, and neighboring Cromwell Islands offer a unique "island hopping" opportunity.  Ranging from 1-mile to 3-miles around, each island has some unique swimming area and very different experiences.  There are also many wonderful lunch spots, fabulous hiking, and a great cliff jump to kick things off.
